Pooja Batra Hot Biography
Pooja Batra was born on 27th October, 1976 in Faizabad in Uttar Pradesh. Her father, Ravi Batra, an Indian Army officer was wounded in the 1971 Indo-Pak war. Her mother Neelam Batra was a participant in the 1971 Miss India beauty pageant. Pooja Batra attended the Kendriya Vidyalaya and besides being a brilliant student, she was a sports enthusiast and also participated in debates and plays. Pooja Batra graduated with Economics majors from Fergusson College, Pune and later earned the MBA degree in marketing from Symbiosis College, Pune.
Pooja Batra is said to have dated Bollywood hunk Akshay Kumar for a while during late nineties. Akshay Kumar latere married Twinkle Khanna and Pooja Batra tied the wedlock to a California based orthopedic surgeon Dr. Sonu Ahluwalia. Pooja lives with her husband in Los Angeles and often visits Mumbai.
Pooja Batra shot to fame after being crowned Miss India in the year 1993. She soon became one of the top line models and walked the ramp at more than 250 fashion shows in India and abroad. The lovely Pooja Batra was approached by many filmmakers from Bollywood as well as the South Indian film industry. Pooja was first seen in a Tamil film titled ‘Aasai’ directed by Vasanth. The film starred Ajith Kumar, Suvalakshmi and Prakash Raj in lead roles. ‘Aasai’ was a box office success and won the prestigious Filmfare best Film Award in 1995.
Pooja Batra was next seen in Shiva Nageswara Rao’s Telugu smash hit ‘Sisindri’ alongside Nagarjuna and Tabu. ‘Sisindri’ was a remake of Hollywood flick ‘Baby’s Day Out’ and was the debut film of Akhil Akkineni, Nagarjuna’s son. Pooja’s first Hindi film was Farogh Siddique’s ‘Vishwavidhaata’ starring Jackie Shroff, Ayesha Jhulka, Sharad Kapoor, Pooja Batra and Ashish Vidyarthi in significant roles. ‘Vishwavidhaata’ was a remake of a Tamil movie Pudhiya Mugam.
However Pooja Batra became a well known face after she appeared in Priyadarshan’s 1999 blockbuster hit ‘Virasat’. ‘Virasat’ was the Tamil film ‘Thevar Magan’ and starred Anil Kapoor, Tabu and Pooja Batra in lead roles. ‘Virasat’ won the Filmfare best Film Critics Award and was nominated in eight other categories including Critica choice best Performance, Best Supporting Actor, Best Supporting Actress, Best Story, Best Cinematography, Best Actress and Best Female Playback Singer. Pooja Batra won the Sansui Screen Award for Best Supporting Actress and was nominated at the Filmfare Awards.
Pooja Batra gave exemplary performances in Bollywood films like ‘Bhai’ alongside Suneil Shetty and Sonali Bendre, ‘Haseena Maan Jayegi’ and ‘Jodi No. 1’opposite Sanjay Dutt, ‘Nayak: The Real Hero’ alongside Anil Kapoor and Rani Mukherji and ‘Taj Mahal - An Eternal Love Story’ alongside Manisha Koirala and Arbaaz Khan. Pooja Batra was nominated at the Sansui Screen Award for the Best Actress in 2006 for her performance in ‘Taj Mahal - An Eternal Love Story’.
