Antara Mali was born to the photographer Jagdish Mali. Her mother was a theater actress. Her grandfather was a painter Shantanu Mali.
Antara Mali’s Movies
Antara Mali’s debut movie was Dhoondte Reh Jaoge which sank without a trace. Her next movie Dum Dum Diga Diga was never completed. She has worked frequently with Ram Gopal Varma. Her first movie with him was Prem Katha (1999). She played the role of Aftab Shivdasani’s friend in Mast (1999) which was a moderate success.
Her role as Kannu in the critically acclaimed Company (2002) was noticed. She played the lead role opposite Vivek Oberoi in Road (2002). Darna Mana Hai (2003) was an anthology of six stories and Mali played Anjali who is stuck in a forest with her husband Karan, played by Sohail Khan. Mein Madhuri Dixit Banna Chahti Hoon (2003) saw her as a wannabe actress in Mumbai with Rajpal Yadav as her husband.
Gayab (2004) with Tusshar Kapoor was below average. Naach (2004) with Abhishek Bacchan saw her as Rewa trying to get a break as a choreographer. The movie was a below average performer at the box office.
Mr Ya Miss (2005) was Mali’s directorial debut in which she also acted with Aftab Shivdasani and Ritesh Deshmukh. It was the remake of the Hollywood hit Switch but fell flat.
